LTL – Less than Truckload

LTL Shipping Solutions

BFS Services can provide LTL solutions for all of the DFW Metroplex.

What is LTL?

LTL stands for Less-Than-Truckload, which means the shipment does not completely fill an entire truck. Basically the freight being moved does not require a 48′ or 53′ trailer since the load would not fill the full-sized trucks.  An LTL freight shipment is typically palletized and ranges anywhere from 150 lbs to 10,000 lbs. Large Shipments over 10,000 lbs are usually moved by Full truckload (FTL, or truckload services).

LTL is usually completed between businesses that ship crates or pallets from dock to dock.  Some LTL involves residential delivery, appointment service deliveries, and lift gate trucks.

LTL carriers usually mix shipments from various containers of various products during their local delivery route.  In other words, a FTL carrier usually moves a container or truck of a single product from one customer whereas a LTL carrier moves goods from many different customers on one truck.  Therefore it is important that the products are appropriately packaged and handled so as to minimize potential damage.  More attention is required in securing the product.  BFS Services prides itself in LTL handling.
